75 years after her disappearance, a research team is setting off to Nikumaroro Island.

The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery, TIGHAR, is on the hunt for crash debris on Nikumaroro Island after finding some tantalizing clues. Years ago, a skeleton was found on the island. It was at first misidentified as male before scientists realized it actually belonged to a Caucasian female. The skeleton then disappeared. More recently, a jar of freckle cream (Earhart hated her freckles) and debris that appeared to be from her famous Lockheed Electra lent even more credence to the theory that Earhart crashed on Nikumaroro. We’ll have to wait and see what TIGHAR turns up.
