The egg-shaped HemLoft was built in secret in the dead of night–will it stay?

Joel Allen had his heart set on a treehouse. Not a chunky box nailed to a tree, but an elegant living space where we could enjoy nature. The problem? If he wanted to buy land, he’d “have to find a wealthy oil tycoon to cosign a mortgage and spend the next 450 years of [his] life paying it off.” So he built the HemLoft in secret, driving out to his chosen tree in the middle of the night and working on it by flashlight. Since he doesn’t own the land, it’s doubtful whether he’ll be able to keep his treehouse up–but he’s still hoping. Here’s a video Joel put together about the project:
