Meet Atlas: The Human-Powered Helicopter

Human-powered flight has been proven possible, most notably with a 4-hour flight in a small, pedal-powered plane.

Helicopters, though, pose different challenges. The longest flight in a human-powered helicopter (HPH) to date is just 19 seconds. Todd Reichert and Cameron Robertson hope to change that. Their goal is to take home the Sikorsky Prize, a $250,000 cash prize given to anyone who can build an HPH capable of reaching 10 feet in height for at least one full minute.
