The flare is seven times the size of Earth and 100 million degrees Celsius.

It was caused by a massive sunspot formation that has been pumping out dozens of flares for the past week. Luckily, they were all short-lived and unlikely to cause magnetic storms on Earth. The sunspot is large enough to be seen with a home telescope, but make sure you have proper sun filters installed on the lens before trying to take a look.
